Chez, long time no see- remember me? Lol hey I need help. Any good idea on planeria worm removal? I just noticed about a million of these little worms in my tank around the thermo, and after vacuuming the gravel discovered more. Ive heard clout will actually spread them and I know how I got them (anachris) but you think my turts are carrying them in their bodies? Ive moved them to my cleaner tank and am currently bleaching everything in their larger house over night and finishing with tomorrow. Im just wondering you ever dealt with these guys? And if you know they can live inside them let me know, cus I really wanna get rid of them.

From my understanding planaria (attached to glass) or nematodes (free-swimming) are both harmless. It is an indication of insufficient cleaning and/or excess food. Reduce food supply and/or more frequent water changes should shrink the population.

Uhh.. who are you? Are you a member? lol j/k ;D good to see you back. It's a good question.. If they're parasitic, then I imagine that they can host off the turtle. I'd say there's a good chance. Chances are that you'll need to get an antibiotic from the vet, and I'd get rid of the gravel for a while, since it's harboring the worms. Chances are that if they are inside the turtle, you'll have to take em to the vet and get an antibiotic- good thing that Christmas and the parents are near lol. I'm going to ask my bud who's a vet and get back to this soon. In the mean time, anyone have a clue? [glow=blue,2,300]:Chez[/glow]

You are right and with the best plan.
These planeria in your water are harmless, rather annoying that it is in your tank, but no need for harsh chemicals or a freak out ... smiles. Cut back amount of food (or clean out uneatten food), increase filtration (always good) and some extra water changes, things should improve in a few days.
I use to get them in my snapper tank, regularly, everytime i drained and bleached and resterilized everything, they were back the next morning. Snappers are dirtier than normal turtles .... smiles, they are!, I just needed better filtration. Once I upped the filtration, I never saw them again. Switching to sand helped too. Gravel is notorious for hiding things from us poor turtle owners just trying to do our best.
Good luck

Well, they cannot be from insufficient cleaning, or over feeding, I feed them til they wont eat whats floating and scoop the rest- Also I clean water literally 3-4 times a month, almost weekly dumping all and refil. But Its been about a month since I took everything out and gave it a scrub with a old toothbrush. Well was cus I did it all yesterday. Anyways I did that... and they seem to be gone but im still getting discolored water like they say the worms cause and I know I dont have worm cus I bleached the tank over night before I scrubbed it and all its assecories. So now Im just trying to figure out why im still getting brown water when the tank water is only 26hours old, and has been getting filtered for atleast 25 hours. Its only a 30 gallon long tank (I think it may be bigger as it takes awhile to fill and it never said size when purchased) with a filter that filters 15gallons an hour. (Sorry Im cheap, jobless and I just moved out-- its some kinda Peguin Biowheel.) Anyways, Im no longer worried about the worms cus the bleach took care of em easy, its just the damn discoloration. The water put in was just hose water , let it sit for about 15 added declor and popped in rocks and turtles then just overnight discolored. Nothing seems to be floating, could it be lighting? I just dunno, maybe you guys will know cus im stumped. Also Chez, I ever show you my site? Well if I did I opened up another... lol, sorry I have been around awhile but Ive been busy. Hit me up on aim sometime. EDIT- After looking at the picture you got up top with the 2 turts and tank my tank is about the same size with about 2inches from the top filled with water.

Insufficient filtration may be the cause. Since turtles eat, defecate, and drink the same water I always recommend getting a filter at least twice as big as the tank. So for a 20 gallon tank, get a filter rated for 40.
You may want to test the ammonia & nitrites. If they're around zero, it's about right.
How much and how often do you feed the turtles?
