Hello, Right the question is on UVA and UVB. I have a Zoo med basking spot lamp and I also have a Repti glo 8.0 with an Arcadia T5 reflector 1. Is it UVA or UVB that promotes D3 in turtles? 2. Also is a Repti glo 8.0 better then Repti sun 5.0? I heard it was. -<Scully>-

Scully, it is UVB light that promotes the synthesis of D3. The answer to your second question is more of a debate. I say that Reptiglo is better than Reptisun, but a lot of people will say the opposite. Supposedly Reptiglo emits 8.0% UVB, whereas Reptisun emits 5.0%, but I guess some say that the UVB emitted from Reptisun is stronger and/or better. Bottom line: Reptglo is cheaper lol [glow=blue,2,300]:Chez[/glow]

Haha that's true. But it's for my turtles so I dont mind the price. O well! I suppose Zoo-med are experts but I have been on various websites since and it claims that Reptiglo does emit more UVB. So I'm sticking with the Reptiglo 8. By the way, the Map is eating more food now. She eats crickets, earthworms and has had a couple of reptomin sticks. Which is great, all is looking well then. Thanks for the help again! ha ha! ;D

Your turt actually needs UVA as well, but this can be supplied from a standard light bulb.

I tried these bulbs that big apple herb was claiming as the best, twice the uvb output. They called they capture the sun, they sucked! I ordered two, one came and didn't work. Two day latter the power went out and after that the one that did work wouldn't come on any more. I sent one back which they replaced, and when the new one got here it didn't work!!!
