We plan to go up to a very lg. tank for our 2 YBS's. I found out that the Wardley's turtle block (1 ea.) I use for their exsisting tank of 10 gallons is OK. However, I was told that I would need, for a 400+ gallon tank, many blocks. Is their a better concentrated product that I can use. Also, use Turtle clean for 10 gallon tank(2 cap fulls per total new water, 1 cap full per week in between total water change). Will be getting several Filstar XP3's and not planning to change out 400+ gallons of water that often. Again, it appears I would need to use quite abit of turtle clean per week. Any other product that is concentrated for larger tanks. I have seen pixs on this forum, that show some kind of aquatic grass for turtles. Can you pls tell me what type of grass, benefits to YBS, where to purchase. Also, our turtles are approx. 1 1/2 years old. Is there a way to tell their sex?

I think in general their tails would be wider and shorter if they are females. I have two RES and the females also grow larger, with the males claws growing longer. Males also have a concave plastron (lower part of the shell) and females have a flatter carapace (top part). Hope that helps, I'm not an expert... and like I said I own RES so I don't know how alike they are to YBS.

The male turtles alwsys have longer claws and longer tails, unless the female is older than the male.

The Turtle Block and Turtle Clean is the biggest waste of money. Do not waste money on these 2 products. Chris

Hey .....I agree these "turtle products" are a huge waste of time.......I own a 135 gallon and it houses my 8inch Male RES and 4 Tilapia (a fish). It runs 2 XP3's (Filstars filters) and with regular water changes (once a week siphon;mainly fish poo though) there should be no need for ANY of these products........large tanks balance better than smaller ones (chemically speaking).......your money is better spent saving for that 400 gallon!.....
Good Luck
