Hey all... Thought I would write a review on the best "turtle related" products out on the market. This is my opinion ONLY.
Canister Filter:
FilStars: I think these are the best filters out at this time. They have the best bang for the buck. I have one running on my 40gal and it does a great job. They have large compartments for a variety of medias (mechanical, chemical and biological) They come in 3 different sizes: XP1= 250gph, XP2= 300gph, and the largest XP3= 350gph (gph= gallons per hour) I highly reccomend these filters!
Submersible Heater:
Ebo-Jager: These are strong reliable heaters. They are submersible which is a must for turtle tanks. They come in 50-250 watts. They are actually pretty cheap. I believe they are anywhere from $12-$30. I also use this brand of heater for all of my tanks and they havent failed me yet. I strongly reccomend these heaters!
UVB Lighting (Flourecent):
Repti-sun 5.0: UVB lighting is a touchy topic. But, from what I have heard these are the best bulbs out on the market. I have seen charts from people who tested the UVB output and this was the highest scoring flourecent light. I have used them and havent had any problem with them.
Commercial Basking Area:
Turtle Dock (Zoo-Med): This is a newer product. I have not used it but I have talked to many who have and most said they liked it. The only complaint I have heard was it sank with larger turtles (i.e. larger sliders or cooters) So if you have a larger turtle I would be sure to get the largest size avaiable. It comes in 3 sizes: Small for 10gal or larger, Medium for 15gal or larger, and Large rated for 40gal or larger. Again, I have not personally used this product, but have heard mostly good things about it.
Commercial Food:
Mazuri Aquatic Turtle Diet: Again, another product I have not used personally, but have heard ONLY good things about. I plan on ordering some soon. This is more like large flakes or brittle than pellets. It has all the right things in it to make your turtle grow strong and healthy. That does not mean this should, or any commercial food for that matter, make up the whole of the turtles diet. Another better known product is Repto-min. I have used this and the turtles seemed to take to it quickly. This is actually what i got some of my hatchlings started on. Both products are great.
Well thats all I have time for tonight. Sorry if there are some spelling errors, I was typing this in a hurry. If you have any questions on these products or where to find them just reply, and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.
Chris
