Hey!
I've not seen much of cooter turtles in the UK before - nice!
I've posted in the main forum about information, but now I know they are cooters could you send me links to any information you have about cooters, I will be able to find stuff, but it may take a while, so that would speed things up.
I think you should be able to find somebody who wants em (BTW: how many do you have?)

Hi I've replied to your message on the main forum. There is a reptile shop in Portsmouth that usually has cooter hatchlings stating that they grow to a max of 9"! They sold 4 to me last summer in a 30" tank which they stated would last a year! They had out grown it within 4 months!!! I later found out from a more reputable shop that they advise people against buying them as they can grow very big, 15+ inches!!! So I hate to think what is happening to all the others that are sold! I have 4 altogether, 3 females and one male! I am going to keep the smallest female as she's always been a bit sickly and unsociable compared to the others!!! I haven't found any specific cooter advice on the net, though believe that they come from the same group as RES and so need the same care! They are v. friendly and tame, they have never bitten me, are happy to be handled and always come to the front of the tank when you walk into the room!

Let me know what happens with the person who was interested. At the very least I can donate them to a shop where I know they will only be sold with correct info to people who can take care of them.
I would report the shop you bought your turtles from - this is the sort of thing that needs to be stopped as soon as possible. Who knows how many of these babies have died because of the bad information of this shopkeeper?

Great stuff! Now you can get a couple of big plecos to keep him company. (Do it now before he gets too big)

Thats a good idea! I've just noticed that you keep your turtles with community fish, does that work well?

It does so far, but they will almost certainly be killed when the turtles get bigger. I'm going to move the fish over to a new tank when the killing tendencies start to show.
Big plecos can survive because of the armor, however, one won't survive a sustained attack from an adult turtle. In my experience if you have them in there from when the turtle is small, it works out that it can't cause much damage and leaves them alone, even when it grows to a size where it could.
Turtle psychology at its best!
