It turns out I'm getting a Russian tortoise for graduation after all. It's still young (3 months old) so I was wondering would it do better indoors, at least at night? The temps here get down into the 40s at night this time of the year and I don't really want to take any chances. I have a 50 gallon Rubbermaid tote, bed-a-beast bricks (or something like it), sterilized play sand, and a heat lamp. All I really need now is some Timothy hay; I read they like to snack on and hide in it. It will take me some time to set up an outdoor enclosure, which I am going to start doing as soon as I am done with finals. But in general is it best to keep young tortoises inside for a while, at least at first? Thanks, Jen

Inside, defo - if nothing else it will mean that the tort gets used to you quicker. But make sure you are using pleanty of UV lighting - young ones need it more.
Post some pics when you have it working!
